	Compton Roofing was founded in 1952 by Gus and Joyce Compton. Over 50 years and thousands of roofs later, the company still lives by the principles that fueled its initial growth. The concept is very simple: We built the company to work the way we would like it if we were the customer. We have no sales people. There are no high-pressure tactics. We deliver what we promise and we try to make the process as painless as possible. One of the key decisions we made in the beginning was to hire union roofers. We felt that it was important to put skilled, highly trained professionals on every roof to minimize problems that would result in

“call backs” or costly mistakes that would inconvenience our clients. While hiring union labor increases our initial cost of doing business, the pay-back has been substantial. Our customers really appreciate the efficiency and work ethic of our roofing crews. Our way of doing business generates a substantial amount of repeat business as well as numerous referrals.

In recent years, a second generation, James Compton Sr. and Sherree (Compton) Hutcherson, has taken over responsibility for daily management and operations. Jim is president of the Roofing and Siding Contractors Alliance, an organization dedicated to establishing quality standards and a strict code of ethics for companies in the roofing and siding industry. The association was responsible for entering into a partnership agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the Kansas City, Peoria and St. Louis regions in an effort to become better citizens of the business community, by ensuring safe working conditions for our employees. It’s this kind of win-win thinking that makes the process work for customers, employees and Compton Roofing alike.
